Nintendo Guards the 'Poké' Crown as the Franchise Powers On Feb/20/2026

Nintendo of America has stepped up enforcement of the Pokémon brand, filing U.S. oppositions against 'PokéDads', 'Pokemory', and 'Poképhsyique' for trading cards and related games, arguing that the marks encroach on its extensive "Poké" - formative portfolio, including Pokémon, Poké Ball, and Pokédex. The legal vigilance reflects the franchise’s enduring commercial force. Pokémon GO generated $212.6 million in revenue in the third quarter of 2025, rebounding from the prior quarter, while apps published by The Pokémon Company brought in $204.8 million globally. Since its 2016 debut, Pokémon GO has amassed nearly 700 million lifetime downloads, and the trading card game —originally inspired by Nintendo’s 1996 Game Boy titles — has produced almost 53 billion cards worldwide. Although Nintendo’s hardware business dwarfs its card segment in revenue, the Pokémon TCG remains culturally potent, with rare cards fetching millions at auction and steady new releases sustaining collector and player enthusiasm alike.
