AWS Commits $10 Billion to Ohio for Cloud and AI Expansion
Dec/18/2024Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced plans to invest $10 billion in Ohio to meet surging demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence, including generative AI. This new commitment builds on AWS’s $7.8 billion Ohio investment in 2023 and $6 billion invested through 2022, bringing the total planned investment in the state to over $23 billion by 2030—one of Ohio’s largest-ever private investments. The expansion will create hundreds of technical jobs in roles like data center engineers and security specialists. Since 2010, Amazon has funneled $35 billion into Ohio, contributing $31 billion to the state’s GDP and supporting over 110,000 direct and indirect jobs. AWS has also invested heavily in sustainable energy, with 23 wind and solar projects in Ohio set to generate 2.9 gigawatt hours annually, powering approximately 565,000 homes. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine praised the investment, highlighting its significance in keeping the state at the forefront of global technology. The following charts showcase AWS’s quarterly revenue from the first quarter of 2014 to the second quarter of 2024 (in million U.S. dollars) and its year-on-year growth during the same period, illustrating the rapid expansion of AWS’s global operations.
