Amazon Defends Brand with Trademark Oppositions and Strengthens AI and Cloud Portfolio
Dec/12/2024Amazon has taken aggressive steps to protect its brand identity, filing a trademark opposition on December 10 against Amazen Apparel, targeting its application for the trademark 'AMAZEN APPAREL' across a range of clothing items, including hats, hoodies, and athletic wear. The e-commerce giant also sought an extension to oppose Sahara Enterprise’s trademark 'AMAZON', filed for a variety of preserved and pickled food products such as tahini, pickled vegetables, and edible oils. These legal maneuvers underline Amazon’s vigilant approach to safeguarding its name in diverse product categories. Meanwhile, Amazon is bolstering its intellectual property portfolio, filing new trademarks to support its growing focus on cloud and IT services. Among these are 'AMAZON NOVA', which covers software and services related to artificial intelligence, generative AI models, natural language processing, and machine learning, and 'BUY WITH AWS', aimed at operating online marketplaces for software, cloud computing tools, and related services. These filings highlight Amazon’s strategy to solidify its dominance in AI-driven services while protecting its branding from encroachment by emerging competitors.
