Airbnb Defends Its Brand as It Reimagines Search With AI Feb/18/2026

Airbnb is tightening control over its brand even as it reinvents how travelers discover stays. In mid-February, the company opposed the mark 'My Air Spa', covering health and beauty booking apps, and sought extra time to challenge 'Hair B&B University', signaling vigilance against uses it may view as encroaching on its distinctive naming convention. At the same time, Airbnb is piloting an AI-powered conversational search tool that allows users to describe trips in plain language — "a pet-friendly cabin with a hot tub near Asheville under $250" — and receive nuanced, context-aware results. Chief executive Brian Chesky has cast the effort as part of building an "AI-native" platform, extending from discovery to customer support, where automated systems already handle a third of U.S. inquiries. As rivals deploy similar generative features, Airbnb’s bet is that sharper intent-matching and reduced booking friction will lift conversions—provided accuracy, fairness, and trust keep pace with technological ambition.
