Synopsys Acquires Ansys in a Major IT Sector Deal Jan/17/2024

Synopsys, a prominent chip design software developer, has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Ansys, a company renowned for its product design software, in a significant $35 billion deal. This acquisition marks the largest in the IT sector since Broadcom's $69 billion takeover of VMware last November. The transaction, which is subject to approval by shareholders and regulatory authorities, is expected to conclude in the first half of 2025. Synopsys is recognized for its software that facilitates chip design across various industries and is utilized by leading semiconductor manufacturers like Intel, AMD, and Nvidia. Ansys, on the other hand, is known for its simulation software extensively used in diverse sectors such as aerospace, defense, automotive, energy, industrial equipment, consumer goods, healthcare, and construction. The backdrop of this deal is the notable increase in both companies' share prices over the past year, driven largely by the AI boom. Notably, Synopsys and Ansys have been in an alliance since 2017, aiming to optimize customer use of their combined technologies.
