Trademark Trends in New York: A Linguistic Exploration (2020-2023) Jan/12/2024

Our findings, which uncover a fascinating snapshot of the city's entrepreneurial landscape, were consolidated in a comprehensive report. We reveal the top trending keywords used for trademark creation and delve into the distinctive lexical preferences of various New York boroughs, including Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens.

New York: A Capital of 'Love': Surprisingly, the keyword 'New York' was excluded due to its overwhelming prevalence in the data. Instead, we focused on other top trends, which provided a more nuanced understanding of the New York business ecosystem. The top five keywords that emerged in the citywide analysis were 'Love', 'Capital', 'World', 'Health', and 'Group'. These keywords, reflecting sentiments of affection, finance, global consciousness, wellness, and unity, underscore the diversity and vibrancy of New York's economy. Interestingly, 'Love' surfaced as a prominent theme, indicating a potential trend of businesses gravitating towards positive and emotionally charged branding. The Power of Names and Niches: Further, our research found frequent references to first names like 'Lauren' and 'Ralph'. The prevalence of these names may hint at a trend of personal branding or possibly reflect the influence of key figures in the city's business landscape. In the first 50 keywords, terms reflecting diversity and inclusivity ('Women', 'Black') and beauty industry terminology ('Skin', 'Care', 'Beauty', 'Clean') also featured prominently, highlighting the city's commitment to diversity and the growing influence of the beauty industry. Borough-Specific Trends: The Manhattan data largely mirrored the general New York trends, which aligns logically considering that Manhattan is the borough with the highest number of trademark applications. 'Love', 'Capital', 'World', 'Health', and 'Good' were the top keywords. In Brooklyn, the local culture and energy were reflected in the keywords 'Wisdom', 'Puck', and 'News'. This could indicate the growth of education-focused businesses, sports startups, or news organizations in this borough. The Bronx revealed an affinity for terms like 'Salon' and 'Dumbo'. The prevalence of 'Salon' may suggest a flourishing beauty and wellness industry, while 'Dumbo'—an acronym for 'Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass'—might hint at the borough's strong ties to iconic New York locations. Queens showed a preference for 'Sports' and 'Nauroz'. The term 'Nauroz', a Persian New Year celebration, indicates a rich cultural tapestry, while 'Sports' can be attributed to the borough's thriving sporting culture.
