Netflix Turns AI Into Infrastructure as Its IP Empire Expands
May/08/2026
Netflix is evolving from a streaming platform into a machine-learning enterprise whose algorithms now shape everything from personalization and advertising to fraud detection and studio production. Yet the company’s rapid expansion has exposed a fragmented AI architecture, with isolated tools and disconnected model registries limiting collaboration across business units. Executives increasingly view cross-domain interoperability—such as repurposing studio-generated content embeddings for advertising and recommendation systems—as critical to the next phase of growth. At the same time, Netflix is becoming more aggressive in protecting the intellectual property generated by its expanding entertainment ecosystem. In a recent WIPO ruling, the company secured transfer of the domain “kpopdemonhuntersdolls.com,” which had been used to market allegedly counterfeit merchandise tied to its hit animated film KPop Demon Hunters . The dispute illustrates how Netflix’s growing success in original franchises is creating not only new revenue streams, but also new battles over digital brand control.
