OpenAI Challenges Healthcare Trademarks Amid Dominance in AI Funding Sep/19/2025

On September 18, OpenAI lodged a formal opposition in the United States against Ceiba Healthcare Technologies’ bid to register the marks CARDIO-GPT and ZEQAI CARDIO-GPT, both tied to telehealth software powered by artificial intelligence for data analysis, workflow optimization, and patient care management. The move underscores OpenAI’s defense of its 'GPT' branding as competitors push AI deeper into healthcare applications. The challenge comes as OpenAI remains the best-funded AI unicorn in America, having secured $18 billion in equity financing by February 2025 — well ahead of rivals Databricks, with $14 billion, and Elon Musk’s xAI, which trails at $12 billion.
