Bridgestone Seeks to Challenge ‘DYNASTONE’ Trademark as Tire Industry Thrives
Dec/17/2024On December 17, Bridgestone Corporation filed for an extension to oppose the “DYNASTONE” trademark for tires, arguing that the shared root keyword “STONE” is integral to its globally recognized brand within the same industry portfolio. As the world’s leading tire manufacturer, with $30 billion in revenue in 2021, Bridgestone’s proactive defense underscores the competitiveness of the U.S. tire market, valued at $61 billion in 2022. The industry, a key component of the U.S. automotive sector, supported nearly 14 million vehicle sales last year, with imports from Thailand and Indonesia meeting substantial demand. Replacement tires led the market with 216,100 units shipped, while original equipment (OE) shipments grew nearly 11% from 2021 but remained below pre-pandemic levels. As Bridgestone defends its brand against rivals like Michelin and Goodyear, its financial strength—illustrated by its worldwide revenue from FY2008 to FY2023 (in billion yen)—reinforces its leadership and commitment to protecting its market position in an increasingly competitive landscape.
