Walmart Expands Trademark Portfolio and Data Ventures

On June 7, Walmart filed U.S. trademark applications for "HYPERSTACK," aimed at tool storage and garage organization containers, and "EXPERT GRILL," targeting grills, fish fryers, portable grill stands, and spices. Concurrently, Walmart is enhancing its Digital Landscapes initiative to assist suppliers in understanding customer behavior online, such as product discovery, time spent before purchase, and peak shopping times. This initiative could offer valuable tracking and targeting data, especially as Google phases out third-party cookies. Launched in 2021 under Walmart Data Ventures, Digital Landscapes complements Walmart Luminate, the flagship product enhancing supplier engagement through data analytics. The company's advertising arm, Walmart Connect, reported a 26% growth in Q1 fiscal 2025, with active advertisers up nearly 19% and marketplace seller growth exceeding 50%. Walmart continues to leverage its first-party data to bolster retail media efforts, including a new collaboration with Disney Advertising for advanced measurement capabilities on Disney+ and Hulu.
