Microsoft Unveils 'Copilot' as Unified AI Assistant Across Its Suite

Microsoft is streamlining its AI assistant branding by renaming Bing Chat to "Copilot," creating a unified identity for its generative AI technology across various products. This change extends to Bing Chat Enterprise, which will also adopt the Copilot moniker and become available on December 1st. Available to specific Microsoft 365 license holders, including F3 frontline worker accounts, Copilot also offers a standalone $5 monthly subscription. Leveraging OpenAI's advanced GPT-4 and DALL-E 3 models, Copilot ensures user privacy by not storing prompts or responses and remains isolated from Microsoft's view. The rebranding announcement, made at Microsoft's Ignite AI event, also revealed enhancements in personalization for Copilot within Microsoft 365, starting with Word and PowerPoint, and eventually extending to other apps. In Teams, Copilot is set to introduce new functionalities like note-taking and real-time assistance in meetings, with additional features like synthesizing long posts and summarizing key events. Outlook will see Copilot summarizing event-related information for quicker reviews, while new features in Word and PowerPoint will include easy tracking of document changes and AI-generated visual content. Furthermore, Microsoft also showcased its latest Azure AI chips, the Maia AI Accelerator and Cobalt CPU, at the Ignite event.
