Instagram Strengthens Platform with New Features Amid Trademark Protection Efforts Apr/24/2025

Instagram, owned by Meta Platforms, has rolled out several new engagement-focused features aimed at boosting interaction and ensuring user safety. Among these innovations is Storylines, a collaborative Stories feature that allows friends to extend each other’s Stories, creating a multi-user narrative designed to increase user interaction. Additionally, Instagram expanded its AI-driven age-verification process to bolster teen safety, a strategic move amid heightened scrutiny over social media age restrictions. To counter competition from CapCut, owned by TikTok’s parent company ByteDance, Instagram launched Edits, a robust, all-in-one video editing platform providing advanced features such as multi-channel editing, project management, and trending Reels discovery. Edits includes capabilities like extended video duration, AI-driven effects, watermark-free exports, and comprehensive analytics, all accessible via existing Instagram accounts. Concurrently, Instagram continues to vigorously protect its intellectual property, recently succeeding in a WIPO domain dispute against the domain exploreig.com, which misused its trademarks IG and INSTAGRAM. These moves illustrate Instagram’s dual strategy of enhancing user engagement through innovative digital tools while actively safeguarding its brand integrity.
